Gender Studies

The program in Gender Studies offers students an integrated approach to the study of gender in human culture. Drawing on courses in such areas as Art History, English, Foreign Language, History, Philosophy, Psychology, and Sociology, the program encourages students to pursue interests across several disciplines. It culminates in an independent capstone project designed to integrate learning from two areas of study.

While the program in Gender Studies is not a major, completion of the program is available to all students regardless of major.  To complete the program, students must take 15 hours of coursework (five 3-hour courses, including one capstone project). Provided students meet program requirements, note of completion will be made on their transcripts. Courses applied toward Gender Studies requirements may also be counted toward requirements in other programs, majors and minors.

"During my time at Wofford I have found that I am consistently drawn to an academic study of the role of gender in history and art. The Gender Studies Program at Wofford has enabled me to embrace this interest. In addition, the program has allowed me to meet others who share this interest but in very different subject areas. Pursuing Gender Studies has helped me do many things, from undertaking a summer research project with the Community of Scholars to participating in the Gender Conference this March."
