Steve Traylor

Steve TraylorSteve Traylor is the Director of Intramurals, Recreation & Club Sports at Wofford College, and also serves as an Instructor of Physical Education. He earned a B.A. in 1973 from Otterbein College [Ohio], where he earned 12 Varsity letters, over 4 years, in football, basketball, and baseball. He was also a team captain, MVP, and all-conference performer in each sport. He was awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for athletic and academic excellence in 1973, and earned an M.A. from the Ohio State University in 1974.

He then served as Assistant Football Coach and PE Instructor at Otterbein College for 3 years [1973-76]. Steve was then named Head Basketball Coach, Director of Athletics, and PE Instructor at Greensboro College in 1976, where he served for 3 years [1976-79]. Then in 1979, he was hired at Florida Atlantic University to institute the first intercollegiate baseball program in FAU history, and served as Head Baseball Coach and Recreation Coordinator for 8 years [1979-87]. After being named NAIA District Coach-of-the-Year in 1983, and leading the baseball program to numerous NAIA and NCAA post-season appearances, Traylor was named Head Baseball Coach at Duke University in 1987, where he served in that capacity for 12 years [1987-99]. While at Duke, he was named ACC Coach-of-the-Year in 1992, and finished his Duke career as the 2nd-winningest baseball coach in Duke history.

In 1999, Steve was named Head Baseball Coach and PE Instructor at Wofford College, and served in that capacity for 8 years [1999-2007]. After claiming the 2007 Southern Conference Baseball Championship, Traylor stepped down as Head Baseball Coach, and assumed the role of Director of Intramurals, Recreation & Club Sports, as well as continuing to serve as a PE Instructor. He serves in that capacity to this day. He has been inducted into 3 Halls-of-Fame [Westerville H.S. Athletics HOF, Otterbein College Athletics HOF, Florida Atlantic U. Athletics HOF]. Steve is married to Debbie Goforth-Traylor, and has 2 adult children. Danielle is a 2011 graduate of Furman University, and Ryan is a 2013 graduate of Wofford College, where he was a pitcher on the baseball team.
