Goodall Visiting Fellows Program
Wofford’s Goodall Environmental Studies Center in Glendale, South Carolina, is an ideal location for a personal retreat or a public-facing practice.
We provide three types of opportunities, all of which include housing located adjacent to the Glendale Shoals Preserve and Waterfall. The “Thinking Like a River” house has a kitchen, bedroom, bath and studio space for your exclusive use. An attached office is used by Wofford’s environmental studies department.
Long-term environmental reflection project at Glendale Shoals Preserve

Spend two weeks or spend a semester pursuing your creative practice. To find out more, view the hiring information.
- Interact with a Wofford class or give a public talk.
- Apply your creative approach to reflect on at least one of our six study sites.
- The remains of a historic textile mill.
- A cemetery.
- Upper Shoals.
- Trolley line.
- A former homesite.
- Ecologically distinct areas on Lawson’s Fork Creek and one of its tributaries.
January or during the spring semester. Longer time periods may be considered. Applications must be submitted by September 15.
- Teach one or two undergraduate courses. (see qualifications)
- Apply your creative approach to reflect on our six designated study sites.

- Host an on-site event with the environmental studies department.
During the fall semester. Applications must be submitted by March 1.
- Walk the trails.
- Spend time in the studio.
- Sit on the shoals and ponder the turtles.
- Simply turn inward to restore your spirit.
- Attend some of Wofford’s wonderful public cultural events.
- Explore the city of Spartanburg, located 20 minutes away.
January or during the spring semester. Shorter time periods may be considered. Early submissions are encouraged.
