Mathematics

Wofford’s mathematics department emphasizes student understanding of mathematical proof, concepts and applications and computing. Majors can choose to study a mix of applied and theoretical mathematics, or pursue a concentration in either pure or applied mathematics. Extracurricular activities include math club, math teas and a tutoring program for local elementary students.

Professor Anne Catlla

Meet Dr. Anne Catlla

Dr. Anne Catlla, associate professor of mathematics and associate provost of curriculum and co-curriculum, teaches both first-year and upper-level students. She also has led student study-travel Interims (to Costa Rica and Peru) and classes in yoga and the graphic novel. Catlla won a Google Glasses competition that brought the future of computing into her classrooms. She also is popular on campus for bringing real-world problems to her students for their consideration and creative solutions.

Meet Juan Garcia ’23

Juan Garcia majored in mathematics and computer science. While at Wofford, he conducted statistics research for two summers with Dr. Deidra Coleman, associate professor of mathematics. He interned with Goldman Sachs after his junior year and went to work for the firm after graduation.
