Spartanburg is known as a community where people care for and about each other, and act on that care, all the time and especially in times of crisis. The community has sprung into action in response to Hurricane Helene: helping clear streets and property; providing shelter, food, showers and charging stations; and other supports and kindnesses.
If you have time or money to help in Spartanburg, please consider joining coordinated efforts to care for our neighbors:
The United for All webpage operated by the United Way offers ways to receive emergency assistance and to provide support for those needing emergency assistance. Please share this with anyone in need of help with food, housing, or other critical needs, and with anyone looking for a way to contribute. Those seeking help can also call 211 for immediate support.
The Spartanburg County Foundation operates a Disaster Relief Fund in support of frontline non-profits offering first response in disasters. Contributions to this fund will provide immediate support to first response efforts throughout our community.
Come Closer Spartanburg, a congregational network, has focused support for the residents of Prince Hall Apartments, going door to door to check on families and to assess needs. Non-perishable food (especially peanut butter and bread), flashlights with batteries, and candles are needed. To donate, please contact Chris Pollard, director of Come Closer Spartanburg (lovethecitytolife@gmail.com).
Mobile Meals will reopen Tuesday, October 1. While some roads and neighborhoods are still impassable, they are doing their best to reach as many recipients as possible. If you can deliver a route, please come to their office at 419 E. Main Street between 9-11 am. They will have route sheets and meals ready for you. Please plan to pick up meals at the back dock since their main driveway off East Main Street is blocked. Even if you’ve never delivered before, your help is welcome!
