In addition to courses in the principal periods of English, American and world literature, majors in English also may take courses in literary criticism, film, public speaking, business writing, new media and creative writing. Most classes are small and conducted in a seminar format to encourage the exchange of ideas between students and faculty.
Joanna Miller majored in English and minored in Arabic and religious studies. She worked in the college’s archives and special collections and discovered a passion for information science. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She is attending Simmons University in Boston, Massachusetts, to pursue a master’s degree in library science and archives management.
Anna Turner majored in English and Spanish, with a concentration in film and digital media and a minor in education. She graduated summa cum laude. She was accepted into the North American Language and Culture Assistants Program to teach English in Sevilla, Spain. While there, she intends to spend time developing her screenplays.
