Re: COVID-19 Update

We are ready to be back together!

First-year students move in on Saturday, Aug. 28 and begin Orientation. Returning students can move in on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 30 and 31. Everyone should check in at the Mungo Student Center when they arrive on campus.

MASKS
Wofford will begin the academic year with the temporary masking policy in place. Everyone, regardless of vaccination status, will wear masks indoors during the move-in process. Each student can bring two guests to help with move in. Everyone must wear a mask indoors and be clear of COVID-19 symptoms (cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, muscle aches, headache, chills, new loss of sense of taste or smell).

After move-in, masks are required in public spaces (dining halls, classrooms, labs, the fitness center, etc.). People do not have to wear masks outdoors or in residential areas or when alone in private offices. We will reevaluate when Spartanburg is no longer a high-transmission area and Spartanburg Regional Medical Center is no longer inundated with COVID-19 patients.

VACCINES
On Monday, Aug. 23, the FDA fully approved the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. Wofford has intended to require the vaccine since the spring, pending full regulatory approval. We do so now. If you have not been vaccinated for COVID-19, find a vaccination site near you and begin the process. You will be required to upload proof of vaccination by Nov. 1, 2021. You may request a medical or religious exemption. If you are not getting vaccinated for COVID-19, you will also need to complete a waiver. The exemption and required waiver are at Wofford.edu/woffordtogether. People who are unvaccinated will be required to test weekly. For more information about vaccination and testing, please refer to these frequently asked questions.

ISOLATION AND QUARANTINE
If you contract COVID-19, you will be asked to provide your own isolation and quarantine spaces if possible. Because we are all together for in-person learning this year, the college’s residence halls and apartments are full with limited capacity for isolation and quarantine. We are not equipped to isolate the same number of students that we could accommodate last year. The good news is that fully vaccinated students will not be required to quarantine, unless symptomatic, so this should reduce significantly our need for extra beds.

This semester it is important that we all self-monitor our symptoms and do our part to protect the health and wellbeing of our community. Contact the Wofford Wellness Center at covid@wofford.edu if you are not feeling well or suspect that you have been around someone with COVID-19.

GATHERINGS
We promised gatherings, and we are looking forward to in-person Orientation as well as tailgates, athletics events, concerts, sorority and fraternity events and much more! See this frequently asked questions for additional details.

See you soon! Again, we are eager to be back together!
