Middle Eastern and Islamic Film Festival: “Mooz-lum”
6:30 p.m., McMillan Theater, Campus Life Building
The Muslim Students Association will host the 2014 Middle Eastern and Islamic Film Festival. “Mooz-lum” was nominated for the 2012 Image Award for Outstanding Independent Motion Picture. Amid a strict Muslim rearing and a social life he’s never had, Tariq enters college confused. New peers, family and mentors help him find his place, but the 9-11 attacks force him to face his past and make the biggest decisions of his life.

Friday, Jan. 17
American Revolutionary War Roundtable of the Backcountry
Speaker: Historian Scott Hodges: “Andrew Pickens – Reflections of the War for Independence in the Carolina Backcountry”
6:30-8:30 p.m., Montgomery Room, Burwell Building
Hear Andrew Pickens’ story in his own words from letters, diaries and documents of the time period. A display of artifacts and items from the colonial period accompanies this program. This program is being hosted in conjunction with an entire weekend of activities at the Cowpens National Battleground in Cowpens, S.C.
Dessert and coffee: 6:30-7 p.m.
Presentation: 7-8 p.m.

The MLK America’s Supper will be a dinner event that includes readings by students of different speeches given by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Monday, Jan. 20
Reception for Spartanburg’s Unity Celebration speaker, Dr. Adolph “Doc” Brown III
8:30 p.m., Harley Room, Richardson Building
Dr. Adolph “Doc” Brown III, an internationally recognized business leadership and educational excellence authority and master teacher, will be the featured speaker for the Unity Celebration at Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium at 6:30 p.m., which will precede the reception. Meet and talk with Brown, along with members of the Spartanburg and Wofford communities. Brown, a first generation high school graduate of a single mother raised in the poverty of housing projects, has risen to international prominence as a sought-after speaker. He is the author of numerous publicans and books, including “Real Talk” and “Championship Habits.” He has received more than 300 awards and honors.

Middle Eastern Islamic Film Festival: “Monsieur Ibrahim”
6:30 p.m., McMillan Theater, Campus Life Building
The Muslim Students Association will host the 2014 Middle Eastern and Islamic Film Festival. “Monsieur Ibrahim” was nominated for the 2004 Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film and was the 2003 winner of the Chicago International Film Festival for Best Actor. In a street called Blue in a very poor neighborhood in Paris, Monsieur Ibrahim is an old Muslim Turkish owner of a small market. He becomes friend of the teenager Jewish Moises, tenderly nicknamed Momo, who lives with his father in a small apartment on the other side of the street. Monsieur Ibrahim gives paternal love and teaches the knowledge of the Qur'an to the boy, receiving in return love and respect.

Pulp Theatre Presents “HAIR, The Musical!”
8-10 p.m., Tony White Theater, Campus Life Building
“HAIR” is a joyous celebration of youth and a poignant journey through a tumultuous 1960s America. This exuberant musical about a group of teenagers searching for truth, peace and (free) love in a Vietnam War era America has struck a resonant chord with audiences of all ages. The themes and struggles in “HAIR,” although from another era, seem vital and relevant to the times we live in today in more ways than you expect until you experience the show first hand.

Foothills Civil War Roundtable
Speaker: Ansley Wegner, research historian, N.C. Department of Cultural Resources in Raleigh: “Phantom Pain – North Carolina’s Artificial Limbs Program for Confederate Veterans”

The Muslim Students Association will host the 2014 Middle Eastern and Islamic Film Festival. “Ishaqzaade” was nominated for two Filmfare Awards and the 2013 winner of the National Film Award for Best Actress in India. While fighting for the political supremacy of their respective families, a Hindu man and a Muslim woman share a forbidden romance.
