Arriving at Wofford

Preparing for your transition to Wofford and Spartanburg:

About Spartanburg

Spartanburg County, the fifth-largest county in South Carolina, is home to nearly 328,000 people and 13 municipalities. The county is unmatched statewide in economic development for new investment and job creation. There are seven colleges or universities in Spartanburg as well as a comprehensive research and teaching hospital. Family Leave Policy for Faculty

The Parental Leave Policy applies to any faculty member who is tenured, on the tenure track or is a full-time instructor on a renewable contract and has served at the college for at least one year and become the primary caregiver of a new child, either by childbirth or by adoption. Such faculty may take up to a one-semester (approximately 15 weeks) paid parental leave within four months of the birth or adoption date — either before or after—under this policy. During the leave, the faculty member will be relieved of all committee service, advising and other departmental obligations. Each month of paid parental leave is compensated at 100 percent of the faculty’s regular monthly base pay. Paid parental leave will be paid monthly on regularly scheduled pay dates.

Further information about the Family Leave Policy can be found here.

Employee Wellness Premium Incentive

Under the Wellness Premium Incentive Program, faculty and staff enrolled in the Wofford medical plan are eligible for discounted insurance premiums simply by completing an annual wellness exam and submitting to the Wellness Center by the deadline. Faculty and staff may utilize Wofford’s Wellness Center for completion of the voluntary wellness exam or make an appointment with their personal physician. Look out for notices in the Daily Announcements about making an appointment through the Wellness Center to complete the wellness exam. In addition, you may utilize the Wellness Center’s nurse practitioner for medical visits at no cost to you.

Health Services Wellness Program

The Employee Wellness Program is offered to full-time employees who have medical benefits. Employees may use the campus Wellness Center as their primary care provider; seek supplemental care and wellness programming including free routine follow-ups for certain conditions requiring monitoring (ex. high blood pressure) in conjunction with their primary care physician; or provide services as needed. Additional information is available on the Human Resources website. Contact Lisa Lefebvre (LefebvreLM@wofford.edu) for more information.

Email

After all your paperwork has been received by Human Resources, you will receive an email from ITS with instructions on how to set up your Wofford email account.

Wofford College uses Microsoft Office 365 for faculty and staff emails and calendars. Faculty and staff can get to Office 365 email and calendars using the ”EMAIL“ button in my.Wofford.edu (see below) or https://outlook.office365.com/mail/ and using your username (first part of your email before @wofford.edu) and password.

Electronic ID Username

Every faculty member, employee, and student has a my.wofford.edu account. The username is the first part of your email address before @wofford.edu.

Campus Wi-Fi

On campus, you can connect to the Wi-Fi by selecting the Terrier Wi-Fi network. Your username and password are the same as your electronic ID username (first part of your email address before @wofford.edu + password).

Photographs

All new employees should schedule an appointment with campus photographer Mark Olencki, OlenckiMS@wofford.edu, for a headshot that will be used on your department’s website.

ID Card

Employees obtain IDs from the Office of Campus Safety. The employee ID also serves as a dining hall payment card, library card and card-key access system. If you work in a building that requires key-card access, be sure to check with Campus Safety that this has been activated on the card.

Parking pass

All employees who drive, operate or control, park, let stand or otherwise use or maintain a motor vehicle (cars, trucks, motorcycles or mopeds) on college controlled or owned property must register the vehicle with the Office of Campus Safety. Campus Safety will issue parking permit stickers to employees and students. Employees will place their stickers on the left rear bumper or window. Permit placement on motorcycles or mopeds will be on the left rear shock or fender (or opposite side if a state permit occupies the space). The parking sticker must be displayed on the vehicle to park on campus college property. Decals are free for employees and good for the term of employment. Fill out the vehicle registration form.

Faculty and staff parking

Designated spaces for faculty, staff, and employees can be found from 7.30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday in the parking lots at:

  • Admission
  • The Montgomery Music Building
  • Butler Circle
  • The horseshoe behind Main Building
  • The south side of the Shipp/Olin lot
  • The curb adjacent to the Papadopoulos Building

Eating on Campus – The Burwell Faculty Dining Room

There are several places to eat on campus. Most faculty eat at the college dining hall, Burwell. There are a range of food options to suit all diets and preferences. There is a dedicated dining room for faculty at the back of the first floor, behind the drink station.

Your ID card also functions as your dining card. You can deposit money onto your card at the front register at Burwell. After that, your ID card will be used as a swipe card to pay for meals. Lunch costs $4.75 for faculty.

To activate your ID card to be used in the dining hall, you should email James Osborne with your name, W number, and the number of the top left of your ID card to set up your dining account.

MyWofford

The my.Wofford.edu website is Wofford College’s online portal. All students and employees have myWofford accounts. myWofford is your home for system links, forms and many other items. This site provides password-protected access to important software, files and information.

Tabs on the side of the site identify pages of information useful to faculty, employees, students and those searching for information regarding technology, the library, etc. Forms used frequently by faculty such as the Student of Concern Form, the Faculty Travel Request Form or the Interim Proposal form, just to name a few, are available on the Faculty page. Reports such as a class roster with photos can also be generated from the Faculty page. Documents such as the Faculty Handbook are maintained here. Both midterm and final grades can be submitted using this page. If you are looking for a specific document or information, myWofford is the first place to look.

Campus computer

All faculty will be provided with a Wofford-issued computer. You may choose from a PC or Mac, desktop or laptop. Most Wofford College computers are on a four-year replacement cycle.

ITS free technology

The college offers numerous resources to students and staff. Employees and students are encouraged to use OneDrive to store important information. This storage solution allows for nightly backup and secure access. For information, see Technology for Faculty and Staff.

Each employee is entitled to install one copy of Microsoft Office on a personal (home) computer or laptop.

Specialized software such as Mathematica, SPSS, JMP and MATLAB is available for use over the campus network.

Turnitin.com is available through Moodle for monitoring authenticity of student writing.

Office assignment

Contact the chair of your department or Dr. Jameica Hill, assistant provost for administration, to find your office assignment and collect your office keys.

Your office telephone

Information Technology Services provides most faculty and staff members a college desk telephone. This includes a unique college telephone number and voicemail service. Voicemail messages are also sent to the staff member’s college email address. Calls to other college telephones only require dialing the four-digit extension. Calls to off campus phone numbers should be dialed beginning with a “9” followed by the phone number.

The telephone in your office may have been assigned to another faculty member who previously used that office; make sure that your name is displayed on the telephone screen. The ITS Help Center can assist you with configuring the telephone and voicemail if needed, by contacting help@wofford.edu.

Course and classroom assignments

Contact the chair of your department to verify which courses you will be teaching. They will also be able to tell you the time and location of your classes.

Administrative assistance

Most office buildings have an administrative assistant. We recommend introducing yourself to your administrative assistant when you arrive at Wofford. The administrative assistants can help you with a range of things related to your classes and time at Wofford such as ordering supplies, ordering business cards, help you with printing and your personal mailbox.

Order academic regalia from the bookstore for opening convocation

Wofford faculty are expected to wear academic regalia at least four times a year: Opening Convocation, Honor’s Convocation, Baccalaureate and Commencement.

If you do not own any regalia, you may rent or purchase robes through the Wofford Bookstore by contacting the Bookstore Manager, Rebecca Liakos, wofford@bkstr.com.

Renting regalia: The Wofford Bookstore usually has undergraduate regalia in assorted sizes if you need to rent a basic black gown and cap.

Purchasing Regalia: You can also purchase regalia from your own PhD-granting institution through the Wofford Bookstore. This requires a six-week lead-time to guarantee sizing and colors. To purchase special regalia, it is suggested that you place your order by July 15 to ensure that it arrives in time for Opening Convocation in September.

Campus Safety – Emergency Preparedness

In case of an emergency, please dial Campus Safety from a campus phone at 4911 (non-campus phones should dial 864-597-4911). We suggest saving this number in your phone in case of an emergency.

If an ambulance is needed, please call the local emergency response number, 9-911 from a campus phone or 911 from a non-campus phone.

The college has an active Emergency Preparedness Committee that develops plans for disasters related to weather, hazardous chemicals, pandemics, and active shooters on campus. Please contact Campus Safety Director Dwayne Harris for more information.

Wofford Emergency RAVE Alert System

Wofford uses Rave Mobile Safety as its emergency notification system. All members of the campus community are automatically in the system with their Wofford email account. To update your information and add your cell number to receive text messages about emergencies at Wofford, click the “Update Emergency Alert Info” in the myWofford tab.

This service is part of Wofford's larger strategy to enhance communications during an emergency. Our goal is to increase safety on the Wofford College campus. Wofford College Emergency Alert System is mandatory for all students, faculty and staff with a college-issued cell phone. All others are strongly urged to register.
