German is one of the world’s most popular languages. More than 120 million people speak German as their native language, and German is the most commonly used language on the internet after English. Students in the German language program at Wofford are immersed in the beauty and intricacies of the language and of the culture it represents.
Over the last several years four German majors — Claudia Winkler, John Wood, Jessica Miller and Caitlin Walsh — were awarded prestigious Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships to Germany. Currently, three former German majors live and work in Austria and Germany.
The German program at Wofford is active on campus and in the Spartanburg community, participating in annual events such as campus-wide Oktoberfest, the Spartanburg International Festival, the German Christmas Party, Karneval and our end-of-the-year Grillfest. In addition, the program offers weekly and monthly activities, such as film and pizza nights, Stammtisch, Kaffee und Kuchen, lectures and musical evenings.
