The Old Gold and Black student newspaper joined the First 54 initiative with distribution of the first paper of the semester along with a slice of "black and white" newspaper cake. The First 54 is a play on the year Wofford was founded (1854) and involves a cross-campus collaboration that engages student in the college experience with a planned activity a day for the first 54 days.
The First 54 has the dual purpose of allowing first-year students to preview a variety of student organizations and departments while offering opportunities to meet new people.
Events ranged from game nights and fitness classes to service projects and theatre productions.
"Organizations from every corner of the campus came together to provide an amazing opening to the academic year," says Natalie Oldham, director of student activities. "This year we encouraged new students to make their First 54 count by jumping into life at Wofford."
