.5 cubic feet, in one box
Historical note: In 1968, Professor Lewis P. Jones sponsored an Interim project entitled "South Carolina: A Seminar in Orbit." In this, the first year of the Interim, Dr. Jones led a group of Wofford students on a bus tour of the Palmetto State. Students traveled over much of the state in this trip, and its success prompted Dr. Jones, with the assistance of Dr. Philip Racine, to lead a second tour in 1970.
Beginning in 1999, the College's Alumni office began sponsoring reunions of the 1968 and 1970 Interim groups, and included a number of other alumni and friends of the college. In the fall of 1999, the group toured Spartanburg, northern Greenville, Pickens, and Oconee counties. In the fall of 2000, the group toured Richland, Lexington, Fairfield, and Kershaw counties in the South Carolina Midlands. In the fall of 2001, the group toured Charleston and the lowcountry. The recent tours have been led by alumni director Charles H. Gray, communications director Doyle Boggs, and state archives director Rodger Stroup, all of whom are alumni of the 1968 or 1970 tours. These recent tours have jogged the memories of many alumni, and have resulted in the donation of some artifacts of the earlier tours. These items have been consolidated into this collection.
Access: Unrestricted
Summary: The collection consists of the following: A journal maintained by Dr. Rodger Stroup of the class of 1968, a collection of tape recordings of the 1968 group, recorded by James Schofield, newspaper clippings about the tour, and materials from the 1999 and 2000 reunions. The 1968 tapes are accompanied by an itinerary of the tour. The tape numbers on the itinerary refer to the original tapes, not to the duplicates. The tape recordings have been re-mastered into tape and audio-CD format. The CDs are labeled with destination and dates (note that the CD labeled January 5 and 9 is actually January 15 and 19).
