50-Year Club Chair - Harry Williams ’42
The Sun News featured Windell McCrackin in the story “Attorney proud of life lived, law practiced,” which ran in the Aug. 10, 2014, edition. At the age of 85, McCrackin is the senior practicing attorney in Horry County, S.C.
1952
Dr. George Fields was the guest speaker at the 2014 Cherokee County Memorial Day service. Fields serves as director of the military heritage program of the Palmetto Conservation Foundation.
1954
In February, William L. “Bill” Kinney Jr. was elected president of the South Carolina Historical Society. Kinney became editor and publisher emeritus of the Marlboro Herald-Advocate in May. His daughter, Elisabeth K. McNiel, is now publisher, and her husband, Dan, serves as editor.
1958
Bonner Thomason, a retired urologist who lives in Charleston, S.C., continues to enjoy hunting. He recently collected a “nice” mule deer in Montana and ruffed grouse in Michigan.
1965
Joint Quantum Institute fellow Dr. Paul Julienne has retired from the National Institute of Standards and Technology, but he continues to perform high-level theoretical research on ultracold matter, a subject he helped create. In honor of his 70th birthday, JQI held a meeting called “Frontiers of Cold Matter” on May 29-30, 2014.
1970
John Mauldin has been elected chairman of the board of directors of the National Legal Aid and Defender Association, Washington, D.C. Mauldin, a practicing attorney in Upstate South Carolina for more than 40 years, currently serves as the chief public defender for the 13th Judicial Circuit encompassing Greenville and Pickens counties. NLADA is America’s oldest and largest non-profit association devoted to excellence in the delivery of legal services to those who cannot afford to hire private council.

The Rev. Richard Allen has retired and is living in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
1972
Dr. Tom Ballard and his partners at Family Medicine Mountain View in Greer, S.C., recently celebrated the 35th anniversary of their practice. The Greer Citizen’s July 9 issue featured the doctors.
1973
Jack Griffeth, an attorney with Collins & Lacy, has been recognized for his mediation experience by the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals (NADN). The NADN is an invitation-only organization of professional mediators and arbitrators who are well established as trusted neutrals within their state of practice.

Marc White married Frances H. Westmoreland on July 19. He also reports that he became a grandfather with the birth of McRae Elizabeth White on June 17.

As executive director of the Rowan Cabarrus Community College Foundation, Marty Richards manages and leads all development efforts for the college. He lives in Kannapolis, N.C.
Dr. Randy Wilson is a pediatrician with Pediatric Associates, Powdersville. He lives in Greenville, S.C., with his wife, Dr. Carol Brasington Wilson ’81, professor of English and coordinator of academic advising at Wofford. Their son, John, began college in the fall.

Veteran journalist Steve McDaniel has joined the The Berkeley Independent (Moncks Corner, S.C.) as a news and crime reporter.
Living in Winston-Salem, N.C., Cal Ratcliff has joined Bank of North Carolina as senior vice president - chief compliance officer. He will be based in the bank’s executive office in High Point.
The Georgetown (S.C.) Chamber of Commerce has named Beth Saffold Stedman as its director of communications and programs. She lives in Murrells Inlet, S.C.

Scott Gantt, class chair
On Sept. 18, Hospice and Community Care in Rock Hill, S.C., recognized Tamra Nivens West by naming a room at the Wayne Patrick Hospice House in her memory. West died in October 2013 after a brief illness. At the time of her death, West had just taken on responsibilities as interim director of the Carolinas Center for Hospice and End of Life Care. She was the voice of hospice in the state, guiding many hospice organizations from infancy to maturity.

Ned Nicholson has enjoyed reconnecting with Wofford through his son, Ben ’17. Nicholson is a partner with the McNair Law Firm. He and his family live in Columbia, S.C.

Tim Madden, class chair
The Aug. 10 issue of The State newspaper featured a column written by Gray Culbreath and William Calloway. Culbreath, chairman of the South Carolina State Museum Commission, and Calloway, the museum’s executive director, wrote about the grand reopening of the museum after a $23 million renovation program. Culbreath lives in Columbia, S.C., where he is an attorney and shareholder with Gallivan, White & Boyd.
Gervais Hollowell, owner of Little River Roasting Co. in Spartanburg, was featured in the Spartanburg Herald-Journal’s Entrepreneur’s Corner on Aug. 24, 2014. Hollowell opened the Coffee Bar at 188 West Main St. in downtown Spartanburg in 2010.

Big Brothers Big Sisters has hired Pam Clusterman Hilsman to serve as the outreach coordinator in Polk County, N.C. Hilsman will recruit volunteers and assist with event planning and fund development.
Ron Vereen and Arthur Milne were married Aug. 8, 2014 in Chicago, Ill. Jan Brabhamofficiated the ceremony.

Paul Christopher Clark is vice president of sales for Ortho Pediatrics Corp. in Charlotte, N.C. He and his wife, Karen, have two children, Hayden and Carson.
On Aug. 10, the Spartanburg Herald-Journal featured Alan Christopher DeCredicoand his Broad Street garden in the Garden Cameos column. DeCredico, owner of Alan Christopher Antiques in the Library Commons in downtown Spartanburg, created an 18 x 26-foot garden below his second-floor walk up apartment and antique shop.

Billy Keels is in his 19th year of teaching and coaching, the past 14 at Lewisville High School in Richburg, S.C. He won his 300th game as a high school baseball coach in the spring, and during the past six seasons, four of his teams played for the Upper State Championship. The 2010 team won the state championship.

Leah Robertson Maybry was featured in the Women in Business section of The Business Journal, published in Charlotte, N.C. Maybry, a senior tax manager with Elliott Davis, runs the firm’s personal financial-services group. In 2012, Maybry introduced the “Women, Wisdom and Wealth” luncheon series in Charlotte to start a conversation about women and financial confidence.

Former Nexsen Pruet partner Rick Reames has been appointed acting director of the South Carolina Department of Revenue. He has been serving as chief of staff at the Department of Revenue since January 2014.

Dr. Gene Hughes is an instructor, chair of the Department of French and head of the World Language Division for Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass. He finished his Ph.D. in 2014 at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
A sports attorney, Lee Long owns Palmetto Sports Management Group and Brokers Holding Group, an insurance brokerage firm. He lives in Lexington, S.C., with his wife, Amy, and their children, Bowers (4) and Hank (9 months).

Anthony Leigh made “The List,” a who’s who of young leaders published by Montgomery RSVP. The vice president of college and alumni relations at Huntingdon College in Alabama, Leigh is active in the community, including service as vice chairman of the Baptist East Medical Center advisory board. He is also famous in the area for his collection of more than 100 bow ties.

Jeffrey Walker Plotner and Courtney Leigh Parades ’04 were married on May 31, 2014. Jeff is the co-founder of Brackish Bow Ties, and Courtney works as the director of programs for the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired. She also owns FiniEvent Planning. They live in Charleston, S.C.

Dr. Jenna Margaret Kesty and Dr. Paul Wesley Benson were married on May 24, 2014. Benson completed a residency in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. His wife began ophthalmology residency in July, also at Wake Forest.
Christina Kocisko married Michael Paul Estes on May 24, 2014. Christina is a corporate trainer for SmileMakers.
Barton Keith Ledford and Stephanie Joann Burke were married on May 31, 2014.
Jason C. Lynch and his wife, Bonnie Allen Lynch ’05, announce the birth of Edward Bennett Lynch, born June 24, 2014. They live in Greenville, S.C.

Spartanburg-based Carolina Alliance Bank recently announced the promotion of Nichole Buchanan to banking officer and lender in its Spartanburg office. Buchanan, who has been with Carolina Alliance since its organization in 2006, graduated from the South Carolina Bankers School in July. She is a member of the United Way of the Piedmont’s Board of Directors and Young Leaders Society, the Junior League of Spartanburg, Hope Center for Children’s Executive Guild and Habitat for Humanity Women Build.
Cassie Connelly lives in White Plains, N.Y., where she is a registered nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Dr. Miriam Hahn is serving as an assistant professor and resident dramaturge in Kennesaw State University’s Department of Theatre and Performance Studies. She completed her Ph.D. in 2014 at Bowling Green State University.

Cameron Corbin and Travis Harris were married on June 7, 2014. They live in Spartanburg, where Cameron is an occupational therapist with Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. Travis works with AT&T in Greenville.
Living in Mount Pleasant, S.C., Edward Nathaniel Hanley III married Elizabeth Alexander Harkness on June 7, 2014. Hanley, who served in the United States Marines, now works as a branch manager with Ferguson Enterprises in Charleston, S.C. His wife is an investment accountant with Greystar.
A brokerage associate with Colliers International, Philip Vann assists business professionals in the acquisition, disposition and leasing of commercial office properties. He lives in Columbia, S.C.
Terrance Ware is the owner and principal agent of Nationwide Insurance in Lenoir City, Tenn.

Matthew McClaren Bond and Anna Frances Bishop ’13 were married on May 24, 2014. They have made their home in Charleston, W.Va., where he is an attorney. She is enrolled in the University of Charleston School of Nursing.
Dr. Daniel Sullivan Henderson just completed his hospital dentistry residency at the University of Alabama Birmingham. He is now an associate dentist with Dr. Mary Metropol in Columbia, S.C.
Living in Spartanburg, Amanda Wilson Kilbourne and Jonathan Craig “Jack” Richardson were married on June 14, 2014. She is the donor relations manager for the Nature Conservancy in Greenville, S.C. He is a CPA with Swaim Brown in Spartanburg.
Dayvia Ann Laws and Adam Russell were married June 28, 2014. They live in Charleston, S.C.
Sarah McClure and Robert Lynn Hall Jr. were married on May 4, 2014. She is the chef at Southside Smokehouse in Landrum, S.C., where they now live. Her husband is employed with First Fleet Inc. The wedding was held at Songhill Reserve, owned by John Dunn ’95, and Austin Baker ’08 took the couple’s engagement photos.

She is an outpatient pediatric occupational therapist with Greenville Health System. He is completing his residency in internal medicine at Greenville Health System.

Dr. Jacqueline Savage graduated in May from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. She is now a physician intern at Yale New Haven Hospital in Connecticut.

Matt Abee, a sixth-generation attorney, was sworn in as a member of the North Carolina Bar in May. Abee practices in Columbia, S.C., with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough. He is planning to expand his work into North Carolina, where the firm also has offices.
A recent graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina, Dr. Andrew Bellebaumis a lieutenant in the United States Navy Dental Corps. He and his wife, Anna, live in Norfolk, Va.
Formerly employed by the South Carolina Senate Finance Committee, Sarah Louise Bettis married Blake Terence Williams on May 31, 2014. They live in Florence, S.C.

First Citizens announced that Othniel Laffitte has been promoted to relationship manager of the company’s Augusta Road office in Greenville, S.C. He is a member of the board of trustees of the Greenville Literacy Association, a member of the United Way of Greenville County’s “UP20s” group and a member of PULSE (Professionals United for Leadership and Social Enrichment).
Dr. Trey Robinson III recently received his M.D. from Wake Forest School of Medicine. He is a resident physician working in the field of emergency medicine at Akron General Medical Center in Akron, Ohio.

Monier Abusaft had his first article published in the Washington Times, “Left Jab at Affirmative Action,” published on March 5, 2014. He graduated from Vanderbilt Law School in May.
Carolina Bank announced the promotion of Lauten Crow to commercial banking officer in its Greensboro branch. Crow joined the bank in 2011 as a commercial financial analyst.
Amber Green Long and Philip Long announce the birth of Lois Carolyn Long, born April 18, 2014.
Andrew J. McCumber has joined the Charleston-based Slotchiver & Slotchiver LLP as a litigation associate. McCumber is a 2013 graduate of the Charleston School of Law.
Ryan McNair received his master of health care administration degree from the University of South Carolina. He majored in health services policy and management.
A second-year medical student at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Jim Allen Shuman and Kaitlyn Rose Bradshaw ’12 were married June 14, 2014. Kaitlyn is a fourth-grade teacher at Wood Elementary School. They live in Columbia, S.C.

Maggie Elizabeth Raines married James Saye Chappell on May 3, 2014. They live in Columbia, S.C.
Brodie Hart lives in San Diego, Calif., and works as the assignment editor for FOX-5 News, San Diego.
A 2014 graduate of the University of Georgia with a M.A. in journalism and mass communications, Sarah Moore is now a public relations associate with Complete Public Relations in Greenville, S.C. She specializes in social media management for a variety of clients.
Now a school counselor at James F. Byrnes High School in Duncan, S.C., Amanda Phillips received her human development and psychological counseling degree in 2014 from Appalachian State University.
Anthony Rowland has joined Avison Young as an associate in the firm’s Greenville, S.C., office. In his new position, Rowland will identify and manage commercial opportunities in representing landlords, tenants and investors. He holds a master of real estate development from Clemson University.
Living in New York City, Courtney Marie Walls is pursuing a master’s degree in art business from Sotheby’s Institute of Art. She expects to graduate in 2015.

Living in Boiling Springs, S.C., Brittany Eberhart works as a coordinator for BabyNet, a service of the office of First Steps. BabyNet is a developmental program that helps infants and toddlers with special needs move toward their full potential.
Will Ford is a youth leader at State Street United Methodist Church in Bristol, Va. He also is a student in the Family/Marital Counseling program at Asbury Theological Seminary.
Parker Freels is a medical student at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia, S.C.

Kirsten Rebecca Hulon and Charles Moore Jr. were married on May 31, 2014. They live in Leawood, Kan. Kirsten just completed the M.A. in management from Wake Forest University.
Matthew Ryan Moore and Holly Gambrell Moore were married Jan. 11, 2014. They live in Belton, S.C.
Amy Simpkins Robinson is attending the South Carolina College of Pharmacy, USC Campus, and her husband, Brandon Robinson ’12, just took a position with Cherry Bekaert in Greenville, S.C. They live in Newberry.
In August Joann Shytle joined Signature Consulting as a technical recruiter. She lives in Charlotte, N.C., and just completed her first half-marathon, placing 11th among all women participants. She is training for a full marathon for 2015 and writes that she misses Wofford and her “Spartanburg mommy, Beth Clardy.”

Ted Fort is attending University of Richmond Law School. He received the school’s first John Marshall Scholarship, which will fully fund his legal education.
Now living in Liberty, S.C., James Marion Lawson and Tara Danielle Underwood were married on June 21, 2014. Lawson serves as student pastor at Secona Baptist Church in Pickens. His wife is a nurse at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System.
