Even exams can't dampen the holiday spirit on the fourth floor of Wofford College's Marsh Hall.

First-year students living in the residence hall decorated their doors in response to a contest organized by their resident assistants Dylan Hooper and Paige Bolton. Bolton and Hooper even invited President Nayef Samhat and Vice President for Student Affairs Roberta Bigger to judge the contest. The winners received gift cards, but Bigger, impressed with the effort, agreed to treat all of the student participants to a pizza party.

“We figured we would bring a little Christmas cheer to the fourth floor of Marsh Hall,” says Hooper.

According to Bolton, the contest was a success, especially in creating community. “I think my favorite part was when I’d come up the stairwell and see my residents sitting in the hall, working together on their decorations,” she says. “They all really came together for this.”

Lizzie Hamrick says that the contest was a great way to break up the pre-exam stress. Hamrick and her roommate, Margaret Grossman, decorated their door by putting their faces on elf costumes.

“It was really fun getting to decorate, especially with all the other women on the hall,” says Grossman. “It definitely got us in the Christmas spirit.”
