SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Pressley Girls sister duet will perform a bluegrass concert and tell stories of Appalachian lore and culture in the oral storytelling tradition on Thursday, Oct. 27, as part of Lifelong Learning at Wofford College.

The 1 p.m. event will be held at Central United Methodist Church, 223 N. Church St., near Wofford. Cost is $5 per person; members of Lifelong Learning at Wofford may attend free.

The performance will highlight Dr. Maxine Appleby’s “Fascinating Lives of Appalachian Women” course being offering through the Lifelong Learning program.

The Pressley Girls, born and raised in Brasstown, N.C., are an authentic Appalachian duet who focus on tight harmony and lyrical meaning. They perform a wide range of music, including folk, bluegrass, gospel and country.

Corie Pressley plays the guitar and mandolin while singing harmony with her sister, Katie, who plays the fiddle and piano while singing lead.

Lifelong Learning at Wofford is designed to encourage and promote the college’s commitment to fostering lifelong learning and service to others in an atmosphere that provides stimulating academic and extracurricular opportunities to adult learners. The program offers members the chance to participate in eight-week, interactive courses and one-time workshops and events year-round. Courses are taught by local experts and Wofford faculty, and include a wide range of topics, including history, religion, science, cooking, writing, pop culture, physical fitness and current events.

Lifelong Learning memberships are $50 annually, running from Sept. 1 through Aug. 31; each course then is $40. Discounts are offered for packages of multiple courses.
