SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Jil Littlejohn, CEO and president of the Urban League of the Upstate, mayor pro tem of the city of Greenville and a 2001 Wofford College graduate, will be the guest speaker at the college’s MLK Community Dinner set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, in the Harley Room of the Richardson Physical Activities Building on campus.

The event is one of several the college will host to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy, all presented by Wofford’s Office of Diversity andInclusion.

The public is invited to the MLK Community Dinner, which is free; attendees are asked to donate new or gently used coats, scarves and gloves at the event, or they may make a monetary donation.

Littlejohn has been an Urban Leaguer for the past 10 years, serving as president of the organization’s Young Professional Chapter, on its board, as the Southern Region vice president and treasurer, and serving on the Young Professional Board of Directors of the National Urban League. She serves as the first female president and CEO of the Urban League of the Upstate, where she prepares and monitors the annual budget of $1.9 million.

A native of Atlanta, Ga., Littlejohn received a bachelor of arts degree in international studies for business from Wofford and her MBA from Webster University. She is fluent in Spanish and has studied Japanese.

Wofford will host “A Community Divided: Who is the South?” with Jared Henderson and Spencer Hudson at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, in Leonard Auditorium in Main Building. The event is free and open to the public.
The program will explore “who is the South” and what it means to be Southern in today’s society. The discussion will look from the world’s perspective as well as how perceptions affect realities in our community, and explaining “why we all deserve to be proud to call the South our home.”
