SPARTANBURG, SOUTH CAROLINA — The South Carolina Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church elected three new trustees to the Wofford College Board of Trustees on June 12 in Greenville, South Carolina.

The new trustees are Catherine Codispoti ’03 of St. Louis, Missouri; Jack McBride of Spartanburg, South Carolina; and Matt McCoy ’97 of Matthews, North Carolina.

The board’s officers will continue to be Chairman Christopher A. P. Carpenter ’90, Vice Chair Ashley Richardson Allen and the Rev. William F. Malambri III ’98, secretary.

“We are delighted to welcome Catherine, Jack and Matt to the board of trustees,” says Nayef Samhat, Wofford’s president. “Their expertise, dedication to excellence and commitment to Wofford College students will enrich our board as we continue to advance Wofford’s mission.”

R. Howard Coker ’85, Dr. English Chapman Flack ’00, B. Shawan Gillians ’04, Malambri, Jodie W. McLean and James C. Meadors ’81 were reelected to four-year terms. Jimmy Gibbs and Justin Converse ’96 rotated off Wofford’s board.

Wofford has 31 trustees who serve as the governing body of the college under the terms of the will of the college’s founder, the Rev. Benjamin Wofford, and by the state’s articles of incorporation. Trustees are elected to staggered four-year terms by the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Tenure is limited to 12 consecutive years of service.

About the new trustees

Catherine Codispoti
Codispoti is senior vice president and chief people officer of Mercy, one of the 20 largest United States health systems and one of the nation’s highest performing accountable care organizations for quality and cost. The system serves millions annually with over 50 hospitals, urgent care locations, imaging centers and pharmacies; 900 physician practices and outpatient facilities and 50,000 employees across four states. Prior to joining Mercy, Codispoti served as chief people officer at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C. She also served for more than 13 years in a variety of financial and operational leadership positions at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. Codispoti completed her master’s in health administration at the University of Oklahoma and her bachelor’s degree in biology at Wofford.

Jack McBride
McBride is the CEO and founder of Spartanburg-based Contec Inc., a global leader in critical cleaning products with facilities in Spartanburg; Suzhou, China; Manila, Philippines; and Ashington, England. Contec employs over 850 staff worldwide. McBride, a Duke University graduate, completed his MBA at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He worked for Milliken & Company for six years before starting Contec in 1988. McBride, who has been honored widely for his community leadership and service, was inducted into the South Carolina Business Hall of Fame in 2022. He recently completed eight years of service as a trustee for the Mary Black Foundation, including a term as chairman of the board. He currently serves on the board for South Carolina First Steps.

Matt McCoy
McCoy is a managing director with CGA Capital, a leading provider of private capital for mission-critical single tenant corporate, governmental, health care and special purpose real estate assets throughout the United States. Prior to joining CGA Capital in 2023, McCoy was managing director with PRP REI LLC. His experience spans 25 years and over $20 billion of completed transactions while serving in notable roles that include managing director/partner at Eastdil Secured LLC and managing director/group head of Wells Fargo Securities’ Corporate Net Lease team. McCoy has served as a member of Wofford’s Investment Advisory Committee and is a lifetime member of the Terrier Club Board of Directors for which he is also a past president.
