Re: Vaccine requirement

On Monday, Aug. 23, the FDA fully approved the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. Wofford has intended to require the vaccine since the spring, pending full regulatory approval. Now, with approval, the college is requiring all students and employees to be vaccinated for COVID-19. If you have not been vaccinated for COVID-19, please make arrangements to begin the process. You will be given paid leave to complete this process.

Employees should upload their proof of vaccination by Monday, Nov. 1.

Employees who object for medical or religious reasons may submit an exemption request and waiver, found at Wofford.edu/woffordtogether. People who are unvaccinated, even with a waiver and approved exemption request, will be required to test weekly. For more information about anti-vaccination consequences, testing and fall events, please refer to these frequently asked questions.

Please note that we have a temporary mask policy in place. Everyone, regardless of vaccination status, will wear masks indoors in public spaces (dining halls, classrooms, labs, the fitness center, etc.). People do not have to wear masks outdoors or in residential areas or when alone in private offices. We will reevaluate the temporary mask policy when Spartanburg is no longer a high-transmission area and Spartanburg Regional Medical Center is no longer inundated with COVID-19 patients.

This semester it remains important that we all self-monitor our symptoms and do our part to keep our community healthy. Contact the Wofford Wellness Center at covid@wofford.edu if you are not feeling well or suspect that you have been around someone with COVID-19.

Since the onset of the pandemic, Wofford College has made decisions based on three key factors: maintaining the health and safety of our community, retaining the integrity of the academic program and preserving employment.

Today’s decision stays true to those commitments.
