Once again, it’s been a remarkable fall at Wofford College. Recently, I had the honor of addressing members of the Class of 2025 during the Senior Legacy Celebration, a new tradition started by Campus Union for the Class of 2024. In its second year, the event followed closely on the heels of the destruction caused to our area by Hurricane Helene.

I have walked the campus often since the Friday morning of the storm. My first reaction to seeing the damage was gratitude. No one was injured, and so many people worked tirelessly to keep our students safe then clean up and repair the campus afterwards. Soon, however, it became evident that Wofford College had again changed, giving us the opportunity to reflect and reimagine.

Change, of course, is a constant, and from each moment of change springs new beginnings. As I told the Class of 2025 during the legacy celebration, we have lived here, played here, protested here, embraced here, competed here, surely have studied here … and more than a few have fallen in love here. And through it all, Wofford College has been a constant. Since 1856, Wofford students have graduated from this place, going on to make a difference in their families, communities and professions. There are too many examples of these successful graduates to name, but this issue of Wofford Today features a few of them. This issue — with sections on Family Weekend and Homecoming as well as the hurricane that changed the face of the campus — reminds us of the common bonds that transcend time and a shared Wofford experience defined by change. We are a strong and flexible enough institution to excel at both.

This is the Wofford Way, and this is our legacy.

Go Terriers!
