Dr. Elton Hendricks has published his autobiography, “Humans Propose but God Disposes.” Hendricks was president of Methodist University from 1983 to 2010.

The University of South Carolina Press has published a biography about Lewis Pitts Jr. titled “The Life of a Movement Lawyer: Lewis Pitts and the Struggle for Democracy, Equality, and Justice.” The book, authored by Jason Langberg, chronicles how Pitts positively affected thousands of lives and communities while working in various social movements and then for legal aid. These grassroots efforts included fights to end nuclear proliferation; seeking justice for victims and survivors of the Greensboro Massacre; restarting the local government in Keysville, Ga.; preserving Gullah culture on Daufuskie Island, S.C.; and ending corruption in Robeson County, N.C. Will Wright Jr. was honored with the Martha Whetstone Service Award by the Edisto Chamber of Commerce at the chamber’s annual meeting in June. The award specifically recognized his work in establishing the Edisto Island Community Clinic, which provides free dental and medical care to underserved residents.
1980
The Rev. Dr. David Roquemore retired after 41 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA. He served in five states: Maryland, Virginia, Indiana, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. He now lives in Conover, N.C. 1983
Dr. John H. Greinwald Jr., a leading expert in pediatric otology and tenured professor at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, is the principal investigator in the first gene therapy trial for childhood hearing loss. Greinwald leads the hospital’s Ear and Hearing Center. He has developed groundbreaking diagnostic tools and algorithms to identify genetic causes of hearing loss in children.
1991
Dr. Mindy Edwards founded Living Darshan, a nonprofit that aims to foster a deeper understanding of autism and to build a residential community center for adults on the spectrum in Charleston, S.C. She is the author of “Psyche & Spirit” and will discuss and sign copies of her book during the college’s first Homecoming Alumni Book Signing on Oct. 25 from 4-5 p.m.,at the Rosalind Sallenger Richardson Center for the Arts.
1992
Ken Tuck Jr., director of drinking water services for Spartanburg Water, was honored with the George Warren Fuller Award by the American Water Works Association at the organization’s annual ACE conference and exposition that was held in June in Anaheim, Calif. The award honors Tuck’s more than 30-year career in the environmental, regulatory and utility industry and the knowledge, leadership and dedication he’s imparted during his tenure.
1994
Dr. Grig Sawyer earned his Ph.D. in educational leadership from Clemson University. His dissertation is titled “Opportunities to Learn in Rural South Carolina Schools: Rurality, Place and Passion.” Sawyer, a longtime educator in South Carolina, holds a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina and an education specialist degree from Clemson University. His research interests are in rural areas, leadership and complexity leadership theory. Sawyer works for Lexington County School District 3 as the graduation and dropout director and the Alternative Pathways Program director.

Wallace Cheves has joined the ownership of Greenville (S.C.) Pro Soccer, which owns and operates the Greenville Triumph and Liberty soccer teams.
Drew English has joined the law firm Adams and Reese as a partner in its corporate services practice group. He is based in Columbia, S.C.
Bill Robinson Jr. has been named managing partner for the CPA firm Gosnell Menard Robinson and Infante in Spartanburg.

Mary Moore Keever was appointed the 14th head of school for Westchester Country Day School in High Point, N.C. Keever has taught language arts and literature at the school for 25 years and served as head of middle school since 2012.
2002
Christian English was named principal of Oak Point Elementary School in Irmo, S.C., in July.
Col. Jordan Inman graduated from the U.S. Naval War College with a master’s in national security and strategic studies on June 14. Inman will move with his family to Landstuhl, Germany, where he will serve as deputy commanding officer at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. He will assume command of Martin Army Community Hospital in Fort Moore, Ga., in summer 2025.

Dr. Anna Thompson Brink and Beth Bowman Farmer ’93 share a love for Wofford College as they work together in Greenville County Schools. Brink started her 21st year in education this year and is the director of federal programs for Greenville County Schools. Farmer started her 20th year in education this year and her 10th as a very successful principal at Westcliffe Elementary.

Blair Dawkins was elected president of the South Carolina Theatre Association, the state’s largest theatre group. Her term runs through 2026. Dawkins previously served as the association’s vice president, high school division chair and executive committee member-at-large.

Janet Rhodes, an employment attorney, has rejoined the law firm Burnett Shutt & McDaniel in Columbia, S.C.
2006
Dr. Meredith Jones Jaggard earned her Ph.D. from the University of Southern California in May. Her dissertation, “Enduring in Silence: Understanding the Intersecting Challenges of Women Living With Multiple Sclerosis in the Workplace,” was nominated for dissertation of the year. Jaggard has worked at the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco for the past five years and was recently promoted to chief alumni officer. She is also executive director of the UC LAW SF Alumni Association. Jaggard lives in Berkeley, Calif., with her husband, Alex, and daughter, Ellie, 5.
Walker Bruce and his wife, Janice, welcomed their son, Henry Walker Bruce Jr., on July 24. The family says mom, dad, baby and big sister, Lily, are all well. The family lives in Charleston, S.C.

Lianne Moore Parr discussed the ethical, legal and societal implications of new technologies and capabilities of Safe Genes with program managers in the Voices from DARPA podcast, episode 79. Parr is an associate and lead scientist at Booz Allen Hamilton in Tampa, Fla.
Hunter Pendarvis graduated summa cum laude from the University of the District of Columbia’s David A. Clarke School of Law, where he earned the Dean’s Cup Award for Scholarship and the CLEA Outstanding Clinical Student Award. As a student, Pendarvis interned for the Hon. Anna Blackburne-Rigsby, chief judge of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, and for an administrative judge with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He was also a student representative on the academic standards committee, senior editor of Law Review and a research assistant to Katerine S. Broderick, dean emerita.

Anna Lee joined the Greenville County Library System as director of marketing and communications. She was previously a reporter for the Greenville News and the Greenville Journal. Lee lives in Travelers Rest, S.C.

Mallory Smith Womble and Tyler Womble ’12 welcomed their daughter, Natalie, in September 2023. Natalie joins big brother, Harrison, 2. The family lives in Houston, Texas, where Mallory is a grants manager for the Mozilla Foundation and Tyler is a research chemist at the Shell Technology Center.

Margaret Deans Fawcett Grantz and her husband, Derrick, welcomed their third daughter, Shaffer Grantz, on Sept. 5, 2023. They live in Columbia, S.C.

Krystin Schwartz has launched Puppers & Hairballs, a natural and holistic pet store for dogs and cats, located in Sebring, Fla. Schwartz, who left a career in fundraising and nonprofits during the COVID-19 pandemic, recently opened her store’s second location and is exploring possibilities for more. She is a certified pet nutritionist who has made it her mission to educate pet parents on the longterm benefits of eliminating chemicals and preservatives from their pets' diets.

Julia Phillips and Kailyn Sitter were married on May 4, in Boston, Mass. Phillips is a software engineer at Robinhood. Sitter is a health science specialist for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
2019
Dr. Buddy Anderson completed his doctoral degree in economics at the University of Alabama. His dissertation, “Three Essays on Measuring Behavioral Responses to Economic Shocks,” features research in experimental and energy economics. Anderson has joined Analysis Group, an international litigation and consulting firm in Denver, Colo.
Abbey Brasington and Alex Poda were married May 25 and then enjoyed a honeymoon in Greece. Abbey is a mental health therapist in Spartanburg County School District 5, and Alex is a teacher and coach in the district.
Dr. Michael Owens Jr. graduated from the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in May. He and his wife, Molly Humphries Owens ’19, have moved to Danville, Va., where Michael is pursuing his internal medicine residency at Sovah Health.
Rachel Shinnick is pursuing her Ph.D. in counseling psychology at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Her research examines multidisciplinary, culturally responsive and holistic approaches to collegiate student-athlete mental health. Shinnick was honored with the Association for Applied Sport Psychology’s 2024 Inclusion, Diversity and Excellence in Advocacy and Social Justice Student Award.

Ashlyn Nicole Chester and Charles Grantham Melton ’20 were married June 15 in Cleveland, Ga. The wedding was a Terrier celebration, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Ron Robinson ’78 and attended by many Wofford graduates, including nine in the couple’s entourage. The newlyweds have begun their life together in Spartanburg, S.C.

John Harrington Jr. is attending medical school at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee.
Larson Heitzenrater joined Bean, Rhoton & Kelley tax firm as a staff accountant in February. He coaches middle school boys’ basketball and soccer at St. Andrew’s Sewanee School. Heitzenrater coached the soccer team to a 6-2-1 record during his first season.
Jackson Pell and Stephanie Knight ’24 were married June 15 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where they currently live. Pell is a finance analyst for Johnson Development Associates Inc. Knight is a central patient transporter for Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System.
Mackenzie Syiem has been promoted to projects manager in the Office of Marketing and Communications at Wofford College. She joined the team immediately after graduation as a marketing fellow.
Woods Wooten has accepted the campaign manager role for South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson. Wooten previously served as press assistant for former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley’s presidential campaign.

Sandry Perez has begun a master’s degree in teaching at Converse University as part of a new 4+1 program collaboration between Wofford, Converse, OneSpartanburg and Spartanburg School Districts 3 and 7. After completing the degree, Perez will teach in Spartanburg School District 3 or 7.
