Departmental Awards and Scholarships

The department offers several scholarships to declared foreign language majors who intend to study abroad. 

The Hucks-Jones Endowed Scholarship 
This scholarship was established in 1988 by Herbert Hucks Jr. ’34 and his wife, Sarah Steele Jones Hucks, of Spartanburg in memory of their fathers, Herbert Hucks ’11and Edward Samuel Jones 1894. Scholarships from the fund are awarded to students majoring in a foreign language. 

The George C.S. Adams Endowed Scholarship 
The George Cotton Smith Adams Endowed Scholarship was established by his widow, Adaline Holaday Adams, and their sons, Charles Edward Adams and George Holaday Adams. The family's gift was received in memory of Dr. Adams, chairman of foreign languages at Wofford from 1959 until his retirement in 1976. Awards from the fund are reserved for students of foreign languages. 

The Paula I. Binovec Memorial Scholarship Fund 
The Paula I. Binovec Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in 1994 by family members and friends in memory of Paula I. Binovec ’85. Awards from this scholarship fund are reserved for students pursuing foreign study travel opportunities. 

The Professor John L. Salmon Endowed Scholarship Fund 
The Professor John L. Salmon Endowed Scholarship was established in 1988 by family and friends of Dr. Salmon and his wife, Lynne. Mr. Salmon was a member of the department of foreign languages from 1921 to 1964. Awards from this fund are for students studying a foreign language.
