Housing Processes for Returning Students

Mid-Year Housing Application Timeline:

October 1 Mid-Year Housing Application Opens
October 31 Application Deadline
December 20  Assignments sent out

Students currently off-campus can apply to live on campus for Interim and/or Spring 2024 beginning October 1. Applications will be available on the Residence Life Housing Portal. Please note that availability is limited in our upperclassman spaces, so we will place students who apply by the October 31 deadline based on seniority. Placements will be determined and communicated via email by December 20, 2024. 

Fall 2025 Housing Lottery

Below is information and a timeline for current students of the annual Fall Housing Assignment Process and relevant information regarding housing assignments. Incoming first-year or transfer students will receive specific instructions via email before their respective housing processes begin.

Process

Reservation Deposit

The reservation deposit (or reservation waiver, if applicable) is due annually by March 15. Students will not have access to the housing application until the deposit is paid. Questions regarding reservation deposits should be directed to the Business Office.

Housing Application

The first step in the process is completing the Housing Application which will be available on the online housing portal. Placement in the housing lottery will not be affected based on when the form is submitted, as long as it is submitted by the initial deadline. Completing the application takes less than 10 minutes and automatically registers students for the next steps of the lottery process.

Roommate Groups

Roommates play an important role in a student's success. Once you have completed your Housing Application, you will be able to begin building your roommate and/or suitemate groups. Students must submit the Housing Application before they are able to select their roommate group. Below are some important notes on roommate groups:

  • Only groups of four rising seniors are guaranteed housing in the Village (which includes MSBVC). Groups including one or more non-seniors are not guaranteed housing in the Village.
  • As in previous years, class status for housing is determined by the year a student began college, not by credit hours.
  • Roommate matching events will be offered. If you need assistance in finding someone to fill your roommate group, attend these events to meet others looking for roommates.
  • All students in the group must confirm each other as selected roommates.

The Lottery/Housing Selection

Individuals will be assigned times to select their space base on availability. More information will be communicated to students via email as we near the application period.

Housing Assignments

For any students who did not select their room in the housing lottery, our housing software system will assign groups to housing based on combined preferences, availability, and cohort. Wofford College reserves the right of final approval of all room and residence hall assignments. The College reserves the right to reassign a student from one room or residence hall to another at any time and for any reason.

Study Abroad

Students studying off-campus during Spring 2025: Students who are participating in a Wofford-approved study abroad or domestic off-campus study program in Spring 2025 and who will be living on campus during Fall 2025 should participate in the housing process described on this page. 

Students planning to study off-campus during Fall 2025 fall: Students who have applied for a Wofford-approved study abroad or domestic off-campus study program for Fall 2025 but have not been admitted or are unsure whether they will confirm their participation by April 2 should participate in the lottery process as described. Once you commit to a program, please complete the Fall 2025 Off-Campus Study application Once this notice is received, your Housing Application will be canceled.

Students who have been admitted and committed to participate in a Wofford-approved study abroad or domestic off-campus study program for Fall 2025 by April 2 cannot participate in the housing lottery and should complete the Fall 2025 Off-Campus Study application found in the Housing Portal. This will provide information about what your process will be returning to live on campus in the Spring, if you choose. For any questions about this, please contact reslife@wofford.edu.

Academic Status

Students must remain registered for 9 hours of academic credit to remain in campus housing. Students who are not registered for 9 credit hours prior to the start of the fall semester will be removed from housing. Students who are academically excluded from the College at the close of the academic year will lose their housing assignments. If reinstated by August 15 these students will be assigned housing by the Office of Residence Life on a space-available basis.

Special Housing Requests

Housing Accommodations

The Office of Residence Life assigns housing to students approved for housing accommodations through the Office of Accessibility Services. Students with a diagnosed disability that impacts their housing needs may request housing accommodations through the myWofford “Student” menu. All requests for housing accommodations for returning students for the fall term are due to be finalized by March 15. Any requests finalized after March 15 may impact or delay housing assignments and accommodations for fall housing. Please direct all questions to accessibilityservices@wofford.edu.

Gender-Specific Housing

Wofford makes every effort to provide students with a safe and comfortable residential environment. Students may email reslife@wofford.edu, to discuss specific housing issues, concerns, or requests. Once assigned housing consistent with their gender identity, a student may use the corresponding hall/apartment bathroom facilities. Student confidentiality is very important. Our staff will keep a student's disclosed gender identity private and will share it only with employees who need the information in order to perform their job duties. A transgender or gender nonconforming student may choose whether to disclose gender identity information to a roommate.
