Faculty seeking the CB designation for a Spring 2025 course can complete the application <HERE>through Tuesday, October 29th.*
Courses that carry Wofford's CB designation:
Include field-based experiential learning with community partners as an instructional strategy
Give students direct experience with issues they are studying in the curriculum and with ongoing efforts to analyze and solve problems in the community
Give students the opportunity both to apply their learning in real-world settings and to reflect in a classroom setting on their community-based experiences
Model the idea that working collaboratively with diverse others to address an issue or promote the public good is an important college outcome and good preparation for citizenship, work, and life
Designating community-based learning courses has many benefits:
Efficiently communicating expectations to students and helping them communicate the nature of these experiences to others
Promoting and supporting such classes and the faculty who teach them and/or are developing them, including enabling connections to resources for planning and implementation, and helping faculty communicate the nature of these experiences for tenure and promotion review
Helping to ensure that Wofford's community partnerships are healthy and reciprocal, protecting the community and Wofford’s reputation
Contributing to the assessment of Wofford's community-based learning, including its impacts on students and on community
A course designation or attribute is a recognized best practice in community engagement in higher education. (Welch, 2016).
* Applications will be reviewed by the Director of the Center for Community-Based Learning and the Associate Provost for Curriculum and Co-Curriculum, who will then prepare a slate of courses for the Registrar so that they appear in the course schedule.
